Sawaga River Press is proud to collaborate with the Pinay Powerhouse Collective to publish this anthology of essays and poetry written by 28 Pinay-identifying attorneys from across the United States. The narratives touch on a wide range of topics including decolonial practices, career advice, Filipina/o/x identity, motherhood, and community work.
Rooted in Practice came from Pinays sharing their experiences with each other during virtual gatherings and conferences organized by Pinay Powerhouse. This affirming collection represents Pinays engaged in all aspects of the law—practicing and non-practicing attorneys, paralegals, law students, judges, activists—as they balance work, identity, and family life.

TESTIMONIALS
S. Lily Mendoza, Professor of Culture and Communication, Oakland University and Executive Director, Center for Babaylan Studies: A delightful savoring of stories of lakas ng loob (strength of the heart), tapang (courage), and kapwa solidarity as told by 28 kick-ass Pinay ‘sisters in law’ (legal practitioners), working adversity into vitality and weaving memory into resilience and survivance.
Dr. Robyn M. Rodriguez, Founder, Amado Khaya Foundation; Founding Faculty Director, Bulosan Center for Filipinx Studies: This volume is an inspiring contribution to our community’s collective archive. I hope it encourages all of us to feel empowered to tell our own stories.
